8vo., blue paper-covered boards with decorative paper label printed in black to upper cover and spine; outer edges untrimmed; pp. [iv], lxxix, [v]; boards a little dirtied and scuffed to spine tips; spine and paper label toned; endpapers browned and offset; very good, otherwise.
First edition thus, one of just 310 copies with a woodcut image and border designed by Charles Ricketts to p.5. Printed in Vale type on Arnold's unbleached hand-made paper with the Vale watermark.
Originally published in 1599, The Passionate Pilgrim was an anthology of 20 poems collected and published by William Jaggard that were attributed to "W. Shakespeare" on the title page, only five of which were considered to be authentically Shakespearean. This copy including a beatufiul wood engraving by the artist Charles Ricketts, and such bangers as 'When the bee sucks, there suck I"; and, "You spotted snakes with double tongue".
