[ROUBAUD, Franz Alekseyevich]. Panorama oborony Sevastopolia. Akst. Obshch:vo Granberg v Stokgolme, [c. 1905].
Concertina-folded panorama (10.5 x 72 cm), segments captioned in Russian and French, folding back into the original 16mo red cloth folder, illustrated and lettered in black; very well preserved; provenance: contemporary stamp Muzei Sevastopolskoi Oborony and price of 25 Kopeks on verso of final panel.
A very rare survival in almost pristine condition, the pictorial guide for the spectacular panorama - one of the largest in the world - housed in a cylindrical building which opened in 1905 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the siege of Sevastopol during the Crimean War. The 115 meter long work by the Odessa-born artist Roubaud combines 3-dimensional artifacts in the foreground with paintings on canvas.
