Original dark blue pebble-grain cloth with panel and vignette in blind to upper board, plain edges, silhouette endpapers, in pictorial dustwrapper with wrap-around design by Rackham; pp. [iv], 5-317 + [i]; with 12 fine coloured plates guarded by captioned tissues accompanied by 17 dramatic full-page line drawings and 11 smaller illustrations; both externally and internally fine, save one minor indentation to upper board, and no other signs of handling, in an unusually attractive price-clipped jacket with overall light toning and dusting, a short (25mm) slightly open tear to lower joint at head of spine, and very small abrasions to spine ends and forecorners.
First Rackham edition, as published in the later issue binding with the later issue dustwrapper which includes mention of the "New and Cheaper Edition" of The Night Before Christmas which was released in 1939. A collection of 26 of Poe's most macabre tales including "The Fall of the House of Usher" and "Murders in the Rue Morgue".
