First edition. Kevin O'Rourke was a prolific translator of Korean fiction, and was instrumental in introducing Korean fiction to the West. His contributions during the latter half of the twentieth century spanned both prose and poetry, and he worked to bring alive the beauty of Korean writing in its translated English form. This collection includes stories that exemplify the post-Korean War society, and works to poignantly show the development of literary themes during this time of hardship for the country. Writers included in the collection include: Ha Keun-chan, Kim Tong-ni, Kim Seung-ok, Kim Tong-in, Shin Sang-ung, Hwang Sun-won, Son Chang-sop, Chang Yong-hak, Hyon Kin-gon, and Choe In-ho.
