NIFFENNEGGER, Audrey (author and illustrator). The Three Incestuous Sisters. New York; Harry N. Abrams, Inc., Publishers. 2005.
Landscape small folio. Original red grained cloth-backed pictorial boards with publisher's adhesive label to upper cover; pp. [178]; with coloured plates on rectos throughout; a fine copy.
First edition. This copy is signed in ink by Niffenegger and dated October 6, 2005. It has a quick ink sketch by the author of one of the sisters of the story. Originally produced as an artist's book, handmade in an edition of just 10 copies with images in aquatint drawn and printed by the author was a thirteen year project which eventually culminated in this printed edition. Intriguingly described by the creator as "a silent film made of Japanese prints, a melodrama of sibling rivalry, a silent opera that features women with very long hair and a flying green boy" this is an atmospheric adult tale of sibling rivalry, sexuality, and cruelty.
