MARR, James William Slessor. Into the Frozen South. By Scout Marr, of the Quest Expedition. London, Cassell and Company, Ltd. 1923.

8vo. Original grey cloth, image of penguins blocked in dark green to upper cover, lettered in gilt to spine; pp. x, 245; 29 illustrations from photographs; a little rubbed and darkened, embrowning to endpapers and at the beginning and end of the volume, else a good copy.
First edition, first impression, getting rather scarce. - Marr's narrative of Ernest Shackleton's Quest expedition frames Marr's account of Shackleton's final days and death at South Georgia. The book's early chapters were in fact written under the guidance of "the Boss" (the crew's name for Shackleton), and a publisher's note at the front explains that, in this way, "the framework of the book may be said to have been laid down by Sir Ernest". On its return from South Georgia the Quest called at Tristan da Cunha.
