LONG, P.W. Other Ranks of Kut … With a Preface by Sir Arnold Wilson. London, Williams and Norgate, [1938].
8vo. Original cloth with illustrated dust-wrappers; pp. 379, plates after photographs; wrapper with marginal flaws and laid down on brown paper, otherwise very good.
First edition. The military driver Long was captured with the Kut garrison in April 1916 and remained POW until January 1919. 'This book is a record of his experiences in the hands of the Turks. No book has been written by one of the "other ranks" of Kut prisoners and no other book contains a day to day record of the march up-country of the Kut "other ranks". That story is told here for the first time' (blurb inside font flap). Long had revisited Northern Iraq again just before the Assyrian exodus of 1933, and assisted, then in the RAF, in the evacuation effort.
