LLOYD, Albert B. In Dwarf Land and Cannibal Country; A Record of Travel in Central Africa. London, T. Fisher Unwin, 1900.

8vo. Original dark red pictorial cloth, spine lettered in gilt; pp. xxiv, 385, [6, advertisements], with frontispiece, text illustrations after photographs, sketch map and two folding maps; very light darkening to binding, one small area of the front cover bubbled, otherwise a very good and clean copy.
Second impression of the first edition. 'The author, a missionary, travelled through the Belgian Congo and into the border region around with Uganda, northwest of Lake Victoria. There are numerous incidents of hunting antelope. Of particular interest are Lloyd's hunts after elephant - with a .303 rifle. As he noted, "I had always looked upon elephant hunting as being all right for those who were tired of life and longed to be freed from its worries ... " '. Looyd is not only a big game hunter and colonial missionary traveller, but reflects critically of the consequences of colonialism in Central Africa.
