LANG, Andrew (author). H.J. FORD (illustrator). The Pink Fairy Book. London, Longmans, Green And Co. 1897.

8vo.; original pink pictorial cloth elaborately blocked in gilt to spine and upper cover, all edges gilt, matt black endpapers; pp. viii + [ii] + 360; with pictorial title, frontispiece, and a host of fine black-and-white plates and illustrations throughout after engravings by H.J. Ford; a good fresh copy with external fading and light rubbing, principally to spine which has lightened to pale pink with loss of gilt defintion, one tiny closed nick (5mm) to head of spine, and 3 pale circular marks to lower cover (largest 12mm diameter), one tiny dark spot (3mm) to upper board, and a very small bruise to bottom forecorner of upper board; internally clean throughout with neat hinges and only a little creasing to frontispiece tissue-guard, perhaps a touch shaken but no internal cracking.
First edition. One of the scarcest titles in Lang's famous series of twelve coloured fairy books; an edition which invariably displays fading to the spine. This is the fifth volume of twelve and forms a collection of forty-one fairy tales of Japanese, Scandinavian and Sicilian origin.
