Original red cloth elaborately and pictorially gilt with a striking design of an elephant monument to upper board, top edge gilt; pp. [xx] + 392; illustrated with 9 beautiful coloured plates set within decorative gilt borders on Japanese vellum mounts and guarded by captioned tissues, 8 full-page line drawings and other vignettes and decorations throughout; a very bright copy with only slight creasing of one tissue-guard.
First Canadian edition illustrated by Heath Robinson. This edition also appeared in the United States but was not issued in England. Scarce.
