“To use the texture and devices of a novel to tell a true story…”

A historical novel based on the true story of Oskar Schindler, a Nazi party member and German industrialist who saved over 1,000 Jews during the Holocaust, Schindler’s Ark won the Booker Prize in 1982 and was adapted into the critically acclaimed film Schindler’s List (1993) directed by Steven Spielberg. The film won seven Academy awards including Best Picture and was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

Initially motivated by selfish profit, Schindler undergoes a moral transformation and begins to use his own resources to save Jewish workers from Nazi extermination by employing them in his own factories. As the blurb recounts; “his enamelware and munitions factory a benign concentration camp, an ark of salvation”. The novel revolves around real testimonies and historical records garnered from fifty survivors from seven nations.
