First edition. Henry Montague Hozier served with Robert Napier on the Abyssinian expedition, and later as assistant military attaché during the Franco-Prussian war. He wrote about his experiences of these events, and was subsequently commissioned to write the present work. It provides not only an account of the conflict between Russia and the Turks, but also background to the ‘Eastern Question’ that led to the situation.
