GROVE, H. M. (described by). F. DE HAENEN (illustrator). Moscow. London, Adam and Charles Black, 1912.

Large 8vo. Original blue cloth panelled in light blue and lettered in yellow; pp. viii + 142 (including index) + [2] publisher's advert.; with 32 full-page plates throughout printed in colour and half-tones and a large folding plan of the city to the rear, heightened in blue; a very good, sound copy with fading and light rubbing to spine and mild shadowing to lower board; internally very clean with previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown endpaper.
First edition. Colin Inman remarks on de Haenen that he was 'a fine artist about whom little is known ... In his choice of subjects and the variety of their treatment de Haenen comes closer than most of the A & C Black artists to capturing the character of the country he is painting and the life of its people' (p. 61 and no. 172).
