Small 4to., red cloth with glitter effect, lettered in black to upper board and along the backstrip; in the original iconic publisher's black and white dust jacket ($7.50); pp. [viii], 123, [v, ads]; near-fine, lightly rubbed to spine tips, in very good dustwrapper which is ribbed to edges and along spine, a couple of corner creases and nicks, one small closed tear to the upper panel.
First edition. The hardback edition was one of a purported print run of just 300 copies. This example signed by the poet to the ffep. Although the publisher states the date as 1977 it was actually published on Jan 1 1978.
Among the poems included alongside the title poem are "On Neruda's Death" (concerning Pablo Neruda, who passed away under quite controverial circumstances in 1973), and "We Rise on Sunbeams and Fall in the Night" (about the death of William Carlos Williams, who died after a series of strokes in 1963).
