Separately paginated offprint. This publication served as well as an advertisement for the Elder Dempster Shipping Company, founded by Sir Alfred Jones, the caption under whose portrait describes him as Empire Builder in West Africa. He was the magnate of colonial interests and investment in West Africa and the Congo. That his portrait would be included in this publication is obvious, but the one of the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, Mr Winston S. Churchill, is less so. In the preface Richard Edmondson writes that both are described as being men of great service to 'Empire, Commerce and Humanity' (p. 3).
