12mo; publisher's mauve pebble-grained cloth with double-ruled panel in blind to sides, spine elaborately gilt, original coated yellow endpapers; pp. [vi] + 140; with wood-engraved title-page vignette, frontispiece, and 5 additional engraved plates on cream stock; a very neat and pleasing copy with a slight lean and some fading to boards, internally very fresh and crisp with a contemporary ownership booklabel (W. Robinson) to front pastedown and only a few insignificant internal spots; scarce.
"New and Improved Edition". The publisher Edward Lacey operated out of 76 St. Paul's Church-Yard between 1829 and 1848. A collection of 13 entertaining and instructive stories for the young including 'The Cranberry Tarts' and 'The Covetous Boy Punished'.
No copies located on the commercial market at the time of cataloguing. Only 3 copies on Copac (BL; V & A; Trinity, Dublin), all designated the "New and Improved Edition"; another undated edition of the work, entitled "Miss Leslie's nursery stories, or, Tales of truth, and cautions for children", with identical publisher's imprint, held at Univ. of Oxford.
