Much history has been blasted in Britain; but only the symbols are gone. The spirit of men who made Britain great still walks the streets…
Extremely scarce study of the London Blitz through 101 black and white photographs of Britain in wartime, some taken by the famous Lee Miller.
Hoping to practice a more profound method of contribution to the war effort than simply photographing fashion for Vogue, Lee Miller recruited journalist Ernestine Carter and broadcaster Edward R. Murrow to produce this rare historical compilation. This powerful volume, with a view to persuading the US to join the war effort, was highly acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic for its striking record of civilian resilience.
The book is dedicated to Winston Churchill for his ‘embodiment…of the indomitable spirit of the common people to which this book pays tribute’.
