The Empress of Britain was the largest, fastest, and most luxurious ship between England and Canada, designed in 1928. In winter, when the St. Lawrence river was frozen she was regularly fitted out as a cruise ship, able to carry 700 passengers. The ship was attacked by German bombers in 1940 and sank. She was destined to be for 12 hours in Beirut harbour, on January 29, 1939 and the tourists had to rush with motorcars to Damascus via Baalbek and back. - Unrecorded.
