Swords of Mars is the eighth in Burroughs Barsoom series and is written in the first-person perspective of adventurer John Carter. The first letter of the Preface and the first letters of each subsequent chapter form an acrostic message to Burrough's second wife Florence, with the message reading; "To Florence with all My Love Ed". Burroughs was so famed for his contribution to the realms of science fiction and fantasy that a crater on Mars is christened in his name, as a consequence of the impact he had in encouraging real voyage to Mars. Swords of Mars was originally serialised in the magazine Blue Book but this is it's first time in novel form.
