Revised second edition (first edition 1844). Bartlett made in all five journeys to the Levant and two to Jerusalem in particular, the first in 1842. This is the first work written and illustrated by himself; previously he had illustrated works by others. Bartlett died on the return from his final voyage in 1853-4 and was buried at sea.
