Henry Christopher Bailey was an important English crime novelist of the 'Golden Age' alongside Agatha Christie. Although most famous for his series based upon a medically-qualified detective called Reggie Fortune, he also serialised the character Josiah Clunk, a lawyer exposing political crime whilst profiting from them himself. The Sullen Sky Mystery, which features Mr. Clunk, is considered by many to be Bailey's magnum opus.
