ANON. Hotel des Anglais, Menton.
Original Hotel luggage label, c.1925. 90 x 140 mm.
The Hotel opened in 1880 when Menton was becoming a fashionable resort for the wealthy elite.
Mentons micro-climate lured Royal visitors like Empress Eugenie, Queen Victoria and King Edward VII. Trains such as the Cote D'Azur Pullman and the Blue Train made Menton easily accessible.
The Hotel became very much a Health resort and advertised "Dancing at 5 o'clock and Winter sea bathing."
Most of Mentons Grand Hotels have survived but not the Hotel des Anglais.
