The building can be located on old maps dating back to 1500. The Hotel is located on the Grand Canal and was founded in 1880 by Mr Bauer and Mr Grunwald, an Austrian who married Bauers daughter.
In 1930 the Hotel was sold and an extra floor was added on top in 1939. The Hotel was closed for much of the 1940's during which extensive renovations took place. An extension was added in 1949 to the rear of the Hotel which faces Campo San Moise. It was built in a brutal modernist design.
Today the 1949 wing is marketed as the Hotel Bauer while the older section is marketed as the Hotel Bauer Palazzo.
