The Hotel was founded by members of the Kadoorie family who opened the Hotel in 1928. It is located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong, at the junction of Nathan Road and Salisbury Road, directly opposite the Quays where ocean liner passengers disembarked.
It quickly became a place to spot celebrities during the 1930's, such as Charlie Chaplin and Paulette Goddard.
On 25th December 1941 the Governor of Hong Kong Sir Mark Young signed the Act of Surrender to the Japanese at the Hotel. The Hotel today is part of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels group, headed by Sir Michael Kadoorie and is the flagship property of the Peninsular Hotels Group.
