HOERTZ, Frederick (1889-1978). Cunard Line to Europe, Aquitania.
Original luggage label, c.1920. 115 x 170 mm.
Aquitania was an Ocean Liner of the Cunard line in service from 1914-1950. She was built by John Brown and Co in Clydebank Scotland. She sailed on her maiden voyage from Liverpool to New York on 30th May 1914.
During the first World War she was used as a troop transport and a Hospital ship, notably as part of the Dardanelles campaign. In 1920 she returned to transatlantic passenger service alongside the Mauretania.
After the Wall Street crash and economic downturn many people could not afford high transatlantic fares and she was sent on cheap cruises to the Mediterranean. She was the last surviving four funneled Ocean Liner.
Rare.
