Imperial Airways was formed on 31st March 1924. Its operations were based at London (Croydon) airport. Its first flight to Paris was in April 1924 using a De Havilland DH34. By June 1924 the London to Amsterdam route had begun.
The first new airliner ordered by Imperial Airways was the Handley Page W8 as depicted in this label.
Imperial Airways and British Airways were combined in 1939 to form the British Overseas Airways corporation [BOAC].
