Following a cholera epidemic much of Naples was rebuilt to improve sanitation. This project included the Grand Hotel de Londres which was designed by Architect Giovan Comencini for Societa Veneta.
The hotel opened in 1899 and was built in art nouveau style on Piazza Municipio. During its early years this palace emerged as a premier accomodation establishment marking the growth of luxury tourism in Naples.
Guests included Winston Churchill and Enrico Caruso and allied personnel following World War II.
