The Hotel opened in 1880 during the French Colonial period and was named after the Hotel Continental in Paris. It is located in District 1, the Central Business District of the City.
The Hotel was built by Pierre Cazeau, a construction material manufacturer whose idea was to provide the French traveller with a French style of luxury accomodation after a long cruise from Europe.
The Continental had a notable role in the social and political life of Saigon during the French Colonial era.
