Karlovy in what was Czechslovakia is better known as Carlsbad, one of the beautiful spa towns. The C.I.W.L was founded by Georg S Nagelmakers to establish a network of luxurious long distance passenger trains across Europe.
The Carlsbad (Karlovy) Express started in 1895 and ran only during the Summer months. The train operating from Ostend coupled with the Paris - Carlsbad - Prague Express when it reached Nuremburg to complete its journey.
N.B. It is unusual to find "Karlovy" printed on this label. Most were printed with "Carlsbad."
