This department deals with who got there, and hopefully back to tell the tale, and why. The scope ranges from classic travelogues and expedition narratives to the description of life and societies in far-flung regions of this globe, friendly and unfriendly encounters (war and imperialism), geopolitics and the sheer bliss of travel.
