Colour-lithographic folding map on linen, in the original cloth-covered slipcase; four pinholes in the corners, signature in crayon, dated 1876, in the Bay of Bengal, name on verso and a little spotted.
An unrecorded map (66 by 91 cm), produced in India by the Surveyor General of India who had himself surveyed vast stretches of Northern India, not visited by any European before. This map shows the surroundings of Calcutta, touches upon Burma in the East, and most importantly shows the barely visited territory of Bhutan, home of the highest unclimbed mountain in the world and possibly the Yeti.
