Orlando, a fantasy novel/biography, and a feminist classic was inspired by Woolf's intimate friend Vita Sackville-West, to whom the book is dedicated and who appears in several of the photographs in the book. The character of Orlando is based on Vita and the historical details are drawn extensively from Vita's own life Knole and the Sackvilles (1922). This American limited edition preceded the English trade edition by several days.
