Seeds on Hard Ground was the first literary project by the eminent singer-songwriter Tom Waits and pulished as a limited edition chapbook in order to raise money for the homelessness cause in the Northern California region. It was written with the intention of giving voice to those suffering from homelessnes in America. The poem was inspired by photographs taken by Michael O'Brien of the plight of the many living rough on the streets and beautifully describes feelings of ostracisation and societal displacement; "Home is a place/ To get a letter/ If they can find you".
