Contemporary English vellum, covers gilt with single-fillet border and foliate scrolls, spine richly gilt in compartments with red morocco lettering-piece, gilt edges, marbled endpapers, brass clasps and catches, silk place-markers; unpaginated, text printed in two columns on India paper; very lightly rubbed at extremities with a few minor scuffs, but overall a very attractive and well-preserved copy.

Samuel Collingwood (1762-1841) served as printer to the University at the Clarendon Press from 1792. Among his descendants were the author and artist W. G. Collingwood and his son, the philosopher and archaeologist R. G. Collingwood.
