A science fiction adventure, which takes the protagonist Charis to the planet of Warlock, where she comes into contact with the matriarchal Wyverns, who control their menfolk with psychic powers. Andre Alice Norton wrote primarily under the pen name Andre Norton, but also under Andrew North and Allen Weston. Best known for her "Witch World" series, but a prolific author in many respects, she was the first woman to be Gandalf Grand Master of Fantasy, to be SFWA Grand Master, and to be inducted by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.
