Reaching out to the best minds
[SANDERS, Ed (editor).] Fuck You: A Magazine Of The Arts, Number 2. New York: Fuck You Press1962
4to. 20 orange mimeographed leaves, unpaginated, staple bound, black stain on front cover presumably caused by the printing process; a previous ownership annotation beside Margaret X's 'Note of Contribution' section, otherwise near fine.
First edition of this issue of undeniably one of the most, if not the primary, revolutionary publications in the Mimeograph revolution.
In Ed Sanders’s own words (and quoting the first lines of Ginsberg’s Howl); My vision was to reach out to the ‘best minds’ of my generation with a message of Gandhian pacifism, great sharing, social change, the expansion of personal freedom (including the legislation of mariguana), and the then-stirring messages of sexual liberation”. Notoriety generated by a police raid due to charges of obscenity led to Ed Sanders's appearance on the February 17, 1967 cover of Life Magazine, which would proclaim him "a leader of New York's Other Culture".
