One of Agatha Christie's more psychological literary exploits, Ordeal by Innocence revolves around the effect of a murder on a family after the presumed killer is posthumously pardoned, leaving alive the deadly question- who did kill an adopted mother?

The book is dedicated to Billy Collins, with 'Affection and Gratitude'. Billy was the man responsible for persuading Christie to leave her deal with The Bodley Head, who had published all of her first books, and to commit to a contract with William Collins Sons & Co. Recognised now as HarperCollins, they are Agatha Christie's, both UK and US, publishers to this day.

In 1984, the novel was adapted for film and starred Faye Dunaway.
