Small format 8vo., original green card covers, ruled and lettered in black and white; this copy together with the glassine wrapper; pp. [vi], 7-683, [v]; a near-fine copy with some light corner creasing; just starting to come away at the front gutter; ‘the ‘Not to be sold in the U.S.A. or U.K. notice’, interestingly here scratched away to lower panel; the glassine torn along spine and lower panel, with subsequent loss to foot.
First edition thus, No. 68 in the Traveller’s Companion series. Printed in April 1959 by Imp. Moderne du Lion, Paris, and sold for 3.000 francs.
The second book in ‘The Rosy Crucifixion’ series, following ‘Sexus’. A scandalous work, banned in America until 1961, this volume picks up with the author’s turbulent marriage, as he takes his first steps towards becoming a writer.
