Qantas Empire Airways started to fly internationally from May 1935 when the service from Darwin was extended to Singapore.
In 1944 the "Indian Ocean Route" was officially re-named "the Kangaroo Service." Qantas initially operated the service from Australia to Singapore and Imperial Airways (predecessor of BOAC) then flew the aircraft to London. In 1947 Qantas would operate the entire route.
