YAMADA, Nakaba. Ghenkô. The Mongol Invasion of Japan … with an introduction by Lord Armstrong. London, Smith, Elder & Co., 1916.
8vo. Original green cloth gilt; pp. xx, , 276, , errata slip; frontispiece, plates, 5 maps. Partly folded and in two colours; lightly rubbed, offsetting to and from endpapers, else a very good copy.
First edition, presentation copy, incribed on half-title verso and dated 1916. An historical account of the ultimately failed invasion of Japan by Kublai Khan and the Mongols in the thirteenth century. - A classic on the subject, still in print. Strangely enough not much is known about the Japanese author, apart from that he was at Cambridge, and had learned to write in English pretty quickly.
