Original pictorial boards, in repeat dustwrapper illustrated on both panels; pp. [vi], 7-168; with pictorial title-page, 8 coloured plates on coated stock and 42 further images, the majority full-page plates tinted in lilac; externally fine, internally very clean throughout, protected by an unusually attractive, price-clipped dustwrapper with an unobtrusive closed tear to top panel from upper joint (58mm) and another, also barely noticeable, from top edge of lower panel (20mm), with some spotting to flaps.
First edition thus, in reduced form, with a new dustwrapper design by Gwen White; first published by A. & C. Black as A picture book of ancient & modern dolls in 1928.. A history of the doll from the earliest times.
