An impressive and complete collection of documents on Wellington's career, illustrating the military history of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. The editor John Gurwood was Wellington's old friend and co-combatant, wounded several times including severely at Waterloo. He became private secretary at London number one in 1837 and 'was entrusted with the editing of the duke's general orders and selections from his dispatches' (ODNB).
