First US edition, using the British sheets of the 1923 Thornton Butterworth edition. Weigall had worked as Egyptologist and archaeologist with Flinders Petrie, and Howard Carter had stayed with him at Saqqara in 1905. During the First world war Weigall worked as stage designer and journalist in England before returning to Egypt, where he covered the opening of the tomb of Tutankhamun as correspondent for the Daily Mail. Published first in England in the year the first volume of Carter's magnum opus appeared (and nine years before its completion), this is one of the earliest accounts of the sensational discovieries.
