WAR OFFICE. For Issue to Officers down to Platoon Commanders. Iraq. [No place, printer of year, London, War Office, 1940].
12mo Original printed card wrappers; pp. 60, folding map in four colours in rear pocket (68 by 60 cm); wrappers a little spotted and with contemporary ownership inscription to front cover, map with a few tears, but a very good copy of an extremely rare ephemeral restricted publication.
First edition. All the soldier needed to know in case Iraq becomes drawn into the theatre of war, which was not too unlikely as there was a pro-fascist coup organized by the Golden Sqare group of officers, led by Rashid Ali al-Gaylani, which, had it succeeded, would have changed the influece of the axis in the Middle East dramatically, as Lebanon and Syria were offcially under Vichy France control.
We were able to locate a single copy, in an Edinburgh archive.
