First edition, scarce. Luigi Villari was an Italian historian, traveller and diplomat in various North American cities. His journey into the Caucasus, including the oil fields of Baku, led him into the turmoil of the 1905 revolution, with ethnic cleansing under way and anti-Russian national movements on the march.
