VICES OF WOMEN - La Méchanceté des filles. [Caen, Calopin] circa 1800.

12mo. (8.5 x 14.5cm); original paper wrappers with letterpress cover, decorative border, and 2 woodblock emblems to lower cover, sewn; pp. [12]; a very fresh, near fine, copy with only a little very light external dusting and one single tiny wormhole (2mm) which penetrates the book.
A chapbook on the vices of women which was first published in the early nineteenth century and inspired by Jean de Marconville's, "De la Bonté et mauvaistié des femmes", published in Paris in 1564. The place and date of printing of this edition are referenced from the top woodcut printed to the lower cover which was in the possession of Pierre-Jean Aime & Chalopin, who was active in Caen between 1777 and 1822. This misogynistic collection of platitudes on the vices of the female sex addresses their licentiousness, idleness, effrontery and other assigned negative attributes.
