First edition. Benjamin Vale (1788-1863) here digs deeply into ancient Egyption sympolism, hieroglyphs, metaphysics and the Biblical implications. He had been a priest for some years in Australia and after his return he 'continued to publish his sermons and devotional books, interspersed with works on geology, ancient history, Druidism, logic, Odd Fellowship, botany, the Zodiac and many other subjects; some were republished in several editions. The restlessness of his mind may have derived from the diseased liver of which he died on 2 March 1863 at Longton' (Australian Dictionary of Biography).
