VACHELL, H.A. Sport in the Highlands. London, R.W. Forsyth, [ca.1900]
12mo. Original beige cloth over brown paper covered boards, title label attached to upper cover, in transparent plastic wrapper; pp. 30; very mild occasional foxing, mostly present on top edge, fragile plastic wrapper with some loss.
First edition. A compact and informally voiced introduction to the basic merits of the four 'sports' to be had in the Highlands - hunting, shooting, stalking and fishing. The author gets points for the use of the phrase "jeremiads of killjoys", even if he using it to refer to conservationists. Accompanied throughout by line drawings from J.Ivester Lloyd.
