TYPOGRAPHY AND PRINTING - The Linotype Composing Machine, What it does, its Construction, Operation, Capacity, &c., &c. [London, Linotype & Machinery Limited, 188 & 189, Fleet Street, c. 1908].
Oblong 8vo. Original cord-bound green wrappers, front cover printed and lettered in brown and gilt; pp. 94, [2, blank], highly illustrated after wood-engravings and photos, numerous typographical ornaments, initial and final page with very light dusting; otherwise a clean and fresh copy.
Very rare trade catalogue-cum technical manual, with a photographic documentation of the work environment of the typesetters using Mergenthaler's revolutionary technology at an industrial scale. Of course, 'the whole of the contents of this Booklet - including the reading matter, with roman, italic and black faces, the borders, initial letters, the head and tail pieces, and the title-page - have been set up at the Linotype Composing Machine, and machined direct from the bars' (note on title-verso). - We were only able to locate very few copies of this title with fewer pages, but no booklet with this collation.
