TROLLOPE, Anthony. The West Indies and the Spanish Main. Introduction by Stephen Tumim Londo, The Trollope Society, 1994.
Two volumes 8vo. Publishers blue buckram (issued without dust-wrappers); as new.
Faccimile of the first edition of 1959. In 1858 Trollope was sent on a postal mission to the West Indies, in the course of which he made visits to Jamaica, Cuba, the Windward Islands, British Guiana, Barbados, Trinidad, St. Thomas, the Bermudas, and selected locations on the Central American isthmus. Sir Rowland Hill confirmed that the mission to the West Indies "was fruitful in valuable results, and that his suggestions for the improvement of the packet service had the assent of nautical men. The expedition resulted in 'The West Indies and the Spanish Main', a highly entertaining book of travel, considered by the writer as the best of his work of this kind".
